The Rev. John M. Allen was ordained a priest at Grace Cathedral on December 7, 2002. He has been privileged to serve since February, 2005, as rector at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church ~ La Iglesia Episcopal de San Lucas, Vancouver, Washington. Before coming to St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas, John served for a year as interim rector at All Saints' Episcopal Church in downtown Palo Alto, CA, near Stanford University.

John's first ministry was as an Associate Pastor at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, with responsibility for stewardship and outreach.  He attended the Church Divinity School of the Pacific and graduated with a Masters in Divinity in May, 2002.

Immediately prior to seminary, John worked as a consultant developing a national network of computer learning centers for the residents of low-income housing projects funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He retired from the federal government in 1995, having worked as a senior executive and manager for 24 years in five federal departments.  He brings broad experience in administration, human resources and executive management.

John's Ministry Objectives are "to serve as a pastor in a parish where we can pray, learn, work and play together to develop spiritually as individuals and become a vibrant Christ-centered community of faith" and "to encourage and empower each person to carry the message and love of Christ from the Church into the world."

John brings a love of liturgy and music and a passion for pastoral care and Christian formation.  He believes that church is not just a place where people gather on Sundays, but is a community to which the faithful belong, to which they contribute their gifts, and from which they draw strength, courage and love.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in English and earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.  He has been married to his wife, Georgie, for over thirty years.  They have wonderful twin sons, two lovely daughters-in-law and four outstanding grandchildren, two boys and two girls.

John and Georgie are blessed to be serving in this vibrant Christ-centered community called Saint Luke's ~ San Lucas!
