Becoming a Member

If you would like to be members of St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas Episcopal Church, it is pretty easy to do. Just register your name, any family members you want to include, and the dates of their baptism. That would make you a “baptized member.” We recognize most forms of Christian baptism. Baptism is never repeated, but if you are really unsure about your baptism, check with the office. If you have never been baptized, call and make an appointment with the Rector, Jaime Case at 360-696-0181, and he will help you through it.

If you want to participate in governance and in the ministries of the church more actively, we invite you to Confirmation, where you study and prepare for a liturgy to assert your mature acceptance of the Baptismal Vows in front of one of our Episcopal bishops and become a “confirmed” member. The duty of all Christians is to follow Christ; to come together week by week for corporate worship; and to work, pray, and give for the spread of the kingdom of God (BCP p. 856). For Episcopalians and Lutherans who are already confirmed, just inform the office you want to transfer your membership from your previous church, and we will contact them.

We also recognize that you might have been confirmed or made another form of an adult profession of faith in some other denomination. In that case, you have done confirmation and it need not be repeated. Instead you should be “received” by an Episcopal bishop when one visits. This is commonly referred to as “Reception” as in the bishop recognizing your confirmation elsewhere and now receiving you into the Episcopal Church.

For Confirmation or Reception, we offer classes that try to explain the Episcopal Church’s identity and traditions, our polity and structure, as well as the vows and promises that Baptism calls us to live out.

Register for the classes for preparation now: The Bishop comes on June 7, and classes will start in mid-March.

Please use the Family Information Form , or ask at the office for a printed form.
